Parents and new transitional youth attend a "Transition Summit"

In Colorado, we have meetings twice yearly called Parents Encouraging Parents (PEP). It's free to parents (they can attend a meeting once every 3 yrs or so) and it's paid by our state's dept of education (possibly includes other funding sources too, maybe through our PTI). This meeting can be repackaged / remarketed to meet the needs of parents of transitioning youth / adults and the students themselves as a "Transitioning ...View full idea »

SWEP-Transition outcomes

Many school work experience/transition programs operate as a one size fits all program disregarding student's individual needs and interests. Many district run programs pay students menial stipends to avoid certification requirements under FLSA. The priority is SED compliance rather than student outcomes priorities. The students are exited from these programs without necessary skills and dumped into adult services. How ...View full idea »

Many employers and HR Departments do not know how to help people with disabilities transition into employment. This would ...View full idea »

Modify SSA - Ticket to Work rules for youth in transition

Adjust regulations for youth served under Ticket to Work including the following: -- The Individual Work Plan should be modified to reflect the slower progression of youth in transition. The IWP now requires that the primary goal be employment at or exceeding SGA. That is the long term goal for every beneficiary, but for youth in transition the first goal should be employment regardless of earnings level. -- The definition ...View full idea »
