products not covered by insurance

my healthcare plan like many of ours don't cover depends and ointment. These two can be very costly and I think they should be covered.

property tax deduction

in my state (illinois) you can get a tax brake only if your the adult who owns and lives in the home. I think families who have kid/adult living with them should be able to get a discount as well. This is because our taxes went up by 1137.00 which makes me angry. We are strapped as it is now this will make it very, very hard.

Emergency Evacuation

I was trained to assist folks who needed help in exiting the building and to ensure the area I was assigned was clear of people in the event of a workplace emergency. That changed this year. In our annual training we were told to exit the building like everyone else should an alarm sound and to let the police and fire rescue teams assist folks out of the building who required assistance. We were also instructed not ...View full idea »

Time Limited SSDI Benefits

The amount of SSDI $ paid out to Americans with disabilities continues to rise at what can be considered an alarming rate. One possible solution is to put a time limit on some benefits. For example: If someone was performing physical labor and they now have joint or back problems that prevent them from performing their job duties, award that person benefits for the time period necessary to be retrained for employment ...View full idea »

Earlier Graduation

Typically, students graduate from high school at age 18; some earlier. I am of the opinion that it is an injustice to students with disabilities and taxpayers that students with disabilities are permitted to attend high school until they are 21 or 22 years of age. An injustice to students with disabilities because they should be taught a functional curriculum and employment skills at a much earlier age. An injustice ...View full idea »

Social Security

My 15 year old son has Duchennes MD. He can no longer walk, in a wheel chair full time. He can not do anything without help. He is 100% dependent on someone to care him, he can not be alone. I was told there was a program where I could be a paid care giver for him. I applied for the program but was turned down because his IQ was too high. They said only a few disabilities don't require low IQ,( ie cerebral palsy., blindness) ...View full idea »

Reporting Income Each Month for SSI

One of my biggest frustrations is reporting my son's income EVERY month. I have to gather the check stubs and send them in. Someone at SSA has to enter that into their system and then calculate his SSI for two months later. It seems horribly inefficient to do that each month. Isn't there a way to do some kind of average for a longer period of time say 3 to 6 months and adjust the SSI payment for that period of time. ...View full idea »
